Incoterms
Free on Board (FOB)

FOB is a rule that defines the responsibilities of buyers and sellers in international trade when transporting goods by sea or inland waterway. The seller's obligations include:

  • Delivering the goods to the port of departure
  • Clearing the goods for export
  • Loading the goods onto the vessel selected by the buyer

Once the goods are on board, the risk and costs transfer to the buyer, who is responsible for all costs after that point.

Ex Works (EXW)

EXW means that the seller is making the goods available at their factory or warehouse. The buyer is then free to come and pick up the goods. Ex Works places full responsibility for cost and risk with the buyer, as the buyer has to arrange everything.

CFR (Cost and Freight)

The seller is required to clear the goods for export, deliver them onboard the ship at the port of departure, and pay for transport of the goods to the named port of destination.

CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight)

CIF is an Incoterms 2020 rule that outlines the responsibilities of the seller and buyer in an international shipping agreement. The seller is responsible for:

  • Packaging: Ensuring the goods are properly packaged and ready for export.
  • Loading: Loading the goods onto the vessel at the port of shipment.
  • Transportation: Paying for the transportation of the goods to the buyer's port of destination.
  • Insurance: Obtaining and paying for minimum insurance coverage for the goods during transit.
Delivered at Place (DAP)

The seller is responsible for all charges and risks in transit until the goods reach their destination, at which point the risk transfers to the buyer, except for duty and clearing charges.

Delivered at Place Unloaded (DPU)

The seller is responsible for clearing the goods for export and bears all risks and costs associated with delivering the goods and unloading them at the named port or place of destination, while the buyer is responsible for import duties and other costs.

Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU)

DDU is an international trade term that defines the responsibilities of a seller and buyer in a shipment. In DDU, the seller is responsible for delivering goods to a destination, while the buyer is responsible for import duties and other costs.

Carriage Paid To (CPT)

CPT is an Incoterms rule that outlines the conditions for the delivery of goods from exporters to importers. It's recommended for transporting goods in containers and can be used for any mode of transportation.
